How Installer.com payments work
Money on Installer.com follows one path in, and the same path back out when something is refunded. The customer pays the merchant. The platform splits the payment. Each party is paid out to their own bank account. Everything else in this section is a detail of that path.
The two roles
| Role | What it means |
|---|---|
| Merchant | The organisation the customer pays. The payment lands in its payment account. |
| Installer | The organisation that performs the work and is paid a share of the offer. |
Payments only ever moves money between organisations, so installer here always means the company. The person who turns up on site is called an installer too. No money is ever paid to a person, so they do not appear in this section.
One organisation can be both roles. In the product the merchant is labelled Payment merchant. It receives the customer’s payment into its own payment account.
The merchant is also the one who owes the installer. What an installer is owed comes from their agreement with the merchant and the prices in it, which is what the offer carries. Installer.com moves the payment. It does not owe it.
The money path
In one line: the customer pays in, and that payment is split three ways, between the transaction fee, the installer and the merchant. Everything below is the detail of how and when.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Offer | Someone prices the work. An offer is the priced quote the customer accepts. Each offer line carries a price for the customer and, when it applies, a payout for the installer. See Product prices and shares. |
| Payment | The customer pays the merchant at the Pay step, using the methods the merchant has enabled. |
| Split | The payment is split three ways: the transaction fee first, the installer’s share next, the merchant’s part last. |
| Approval | The Payout step approves the order’s payout. Invoices are generated at this point. |
| Payout | Approved money is collected into a payout and sent to your bank account. |
Where each line is paid
Every offer line is settled one of two ways, and the offer shows which:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Installer.com | Paid through the platform. The money is held until the payout is approved. |
| External | Settled outside the platform. The line is recorded for your books only. |
The distinction decides what a credit does later. Crediting an Installer.com line refunds the customer through the platform. Crediting an External line is recorded and nothing else, so you settle it yourself.
Paying installers directly
Settings → Payments carries a switch called Pay installers directly.
- On: the installer’s share goes to the installer’s own bank account, and the merchant receives a share invoice for it.
- Off: the whole payment goes to the merchant’s bank account, and the merchant settles with the installer outside Installer.com.
The switch belongs to the merchant on each order. As an installer working for several merchants, whether you are paid through the platform is each merchant’s setting, not one setting of your own.
Direct payouts are why an installer has to complete payment setup before they can accept an order that pays them. See Set up payouts.
Where payments live
Select Wallet in the navigation. The card carries what is approved and waiting, and when the next payout runs, so you can read your position without opening it. The section itself is titled Payments once you are inside.
| Section | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Payout overview | Every payout, its status, and its documents |
| Offers | Every priced offer, its payment status and payout status |
| Transactions | The ledger of your payment account |
| Disputes | Chargebacks raised against your payments |
| Settings | Payment setup, bank accounts, payout settings |
Transactions and Disputes appear once you have a payment account. Payment settings are also reachable at Settings → Payments.
Seeing any of this needs the finance permission. A member without it does not see the card.
Who processes the payments
Your money is handled by a licensed bank. Payments, balances and payouts run on the banking licence of Adyen N.V., which is regulated as a bank in each market it operates in. That is what lets us support every area we operate in. Adyen publishes the licence and the regulator per country in its licences and disclosures.
Whose money is it before payout
The money in the account belongs to the merchant. Installer.com opens the account and moves payments through it. The account is in the merchant’s name, and the money in it is theirs, not ours. That is why setup verifies the account in your own organisation’s name.
Nobody is paid from it until the order’s Payout step is approved. That normally happens once the work is done. Cancelling an order is the other route, and it approves any unsettled payout on the way out.
Setting the account up is the last step before you can be paid. See Set up payouts.
Adyen can appear on a customer’s bank or card statement as the payment processor. Installer.com does not store full card or bank account details.
Payment records, statements and invoices stay available in the app. Your own duty to keep records remains: download the monthly documents and store them with the rest of your books.
