Who can see and act on payments
Payments are gated by one permission, called finance, with two levels. It is separate from ordinary order access, so a member can run orders all day without ever seeing money.
| Level | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Finance read | See the Wallet card, the payout overview, offers, statements, invoices and payment settings |
| Finance write | Change payment settings, credit lines, correct payouts, refund, and manage the payment account |
A member with neither does not see the Wallet card at all. The section is not greyed out, it is absent.
What each level covers
Finance read:
- Payout overview, statements, invoices and CSV exports
- Offers, with payment and payout status
- Settings → Payments, read only
Finance write, in addition:
- Credit lines on an offer
- Payout correction
- Refunds and refund retries
- Payment account setup, bank accounts and payout settings
Moving money always needs finance write. Crediting a line, correcting a payout and issuing a refund all need it. A member with finance read can reconcile and download, but cannot move anything.
It reaches beyond the payment pages. Cancelling an order approves its payout, so cancelling one needs finance write whenever there is a payout to approve. That is why someone who runs orders all day can still be stopped at the last step of one.
Completing the Payout step itself is different. It belongs to whoever the step is assigned to on the workflow, and most merchants set it to complete automatically. See Approve a payout.
Some actions need more than the permission. Crediting also requires that your organisation owns the order or represents the step. A payout correction also requires that you are the offer’s merchant. Permission is the floor, not the whole test.
Who gets it by default
Administrators hold finance read and write. Members and installers in the field hold neither.
Change it by editing the roles on your teams under Settings. Give finance read to anyone who needs to reconcile, and finance write only to the people who must be able to move money.
What the customer sees
Customers are not members of your organisation, so they hold no permissions. They see their own offers, their own payment and their own invoices in the client portal. They see nothing about payouts, fees or other parties.
A note on separation of duties
Finance write covers refunds, credits and payout corrections, all of which move real money and none of which can be undone in the product. Grant it deliberately, and to as few people as the work allows.
